So we're in Edinburgh - I say 'we'. It's my manager Cathy, our wonderful regional radio plugger Claire and all of my luggage. I'm on a regional radio visit - where I go to stations up and down the country so say hello and have a chat and generally say thanks for supporting the record. I say 'all of my luggage' because, honestly, it's a joke how much I've packed. When I checked in at the airport the BA staff assumed my suitcase belonged to Cathy ('Full of her shoes?' the attendant joked - imagining my case was full of Louboutin heels and fur coats). Nope - just my weird stuff. I'm a bit of a boring health nut - so I tend to pack a calamity of household items in order to avoid eating room service and trying to 'cook' in my hotel room and eat relatively healthy. To give you an example here is what I packed.
* 1. Way too many clothes
2. A kitchen scale (!!!)
3. My own cutlery (I know, I know!)
4. A tupperware container (doubles as my cereal bowl and my salad dish : win win!)
5. Intant oatmeal, vanilla essence, decaf coffee and my own dedicated mug
6. protein powder
7. my bloody kitchen blender (seriously)
8. some yoga dvd's
We took off from London City Airport (I'd never heard of it either) and I almost had a heart attack as the runway is so short and the acceleration immense to compensate. Before we checked in, poor Cathy had been distracted by some minor catastrophe in another part of the world involving some other insignificant aspect of the album release which at the time seemed like the world was going to end and then five minutes later seemed (almost) funny - so distracted was she that she accidentally packed her expensive lap top in the top pocket of her check in luggage. We laughed (well I did) as we watched baggage handlers throw her suitcase around from the conveniently located window next to our boarding gate. I felt sort of evil teasing her - offering to stop off to get super glue when we landed in case it needed sticking back together. She wasn't impressed. Anyhooo - When we landed in Edinburgh (and survived the luggage check in ridicule and possible destruction of Apple devices) I must have accidentally had real coffee on the plane for I was talking a million miles an hour and decided I'd drive our hire car. Me. The poptart. Driving.
I've never driven in Scotland.
I've never driven a Mercedes Benz sedan.
But suddenly, I was insisting on driving all three of us from the airport to our destination.
Let's just say it involved a lot of backtracking.
My controlling nature didn't stop there : upon arrival I went to the (conveniently pre-scouted by my assistant in London) local Sainsburys grocery store and picked up a variety of ingredients I combined into a 'salad' for dinner that could truthfully only be described as 'experimental' (at best).
Still - taking photos in the local grocery store must have made the locals think I was either egotistical, insane or both. But here they be for your perusal.
Now I'm winding down in my hotel room - thinking of ways to explain how the beetroot juice I've spilled on the carpet got there - and realising as I type how much it looks like there's been some kind of bar brawl in here.
All this - to promote my record.
Ah the glamour of pop!
Can't wait to get back here in less than a month (well, to Glasgow!) for the 'Secret Tour' In the meantime, it's a cuppa - some telly and bed time for this popstrel. Thanks for reading! x
